Top Storyline 2000-2010: Tie - Green Lantern Rebirth and Identity Crisis
Top Villain: Tie - Dr. Doom and Joker

Wow, great picks once again. Alex Ross beating Jim Lee kinda surprised me but not by much, and The Dark Knight winning after only being out for two years compared to some older stuff like Batman The Animated Series was interesting. Especially because almost everyone listed The Dark Knight. Seeing a few ties was fun because It's always funny to see how many of us are on the same wavelength when it comes to this, which keeps it exciting. And of course the Dynamic Duo reigns supreme in the Duo category. So, feel free to comment and throw out more topics, I'll grab a few and use them in two weeks for the next Top Five 5's! Thanks again for participating, below are the results to last weeks poll as well, and make sure you vote on this weeks. Until next time, I'm your friendly Neighborhood Blogger-Man, Jason Todd!

The question asked was "What Bat-Family member has adjusted to their new role the best?"

Last Place with 6.7% - Damian Wayne, The only Robin not appointed by Bruce Wayne.
Third Place with 20.0% - Dick Grayson, I think everyone misses him as Nightwing. I do anyway.
Second Place with 33.3% - Stephanie Brown, My personal pick and favorite Batgirl since Babs.
Winner with 40.0% - Tim Drake, The Second Red Robin has made the mantle his own.

  1. Nice to see the love for Dark Knight and GL Rebirth. If it wasn't for the dodgy ending I probably would have voted for Identity Crisis too. I'm disappointed there wasn't more love for Grodd though! ;)

  2. Wow, I'm shocked to see the variety in everyone's picks. Nice work on them categories!!! Can't wait for the next run. :)

  3. I'm definitely not shocked by Dark Knight coming in first. That's one of those comic movies that even non-fans speak highly of. One of these days I'll see it...

Whew, where do I start commenting??? First off, the only time I laughed out loud while reading this was after I saw Marc pick Stilt-Man as one of his favorite villians! Please tell me that was a joke!

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the stuff that I SHOULD have picked... I don't know how I forgot George Perez as best artist... Dumb! Thing/Torch and Iron Fist/Luke Cage were GREAT picks for Bromance, and I can't believe that I forgot Rebirth AND Last Son! Double dumb! Oh, and I have a new found respect for you, JT. Picking Inertia for best villain made my night! I thought for SURE I'd be the only person to choose him! Bravo!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Paul - I agree, I figured they'd both be big candidates for their categories. Where is Grodd anyway?! I feel like I haven't seen him since Salvation Run.

Falisha - I was more shocked to see all the picks that were similar, especially on Artwork and favorite storylines.

X - Go see Dark Knight, rent it, watch it with ya family, be amazed! Lol.The best part about that is I make my picks before I read you guys' picks so they don't influence me, and I almost took out Inertia and was gonna choose someone else, but I liked him too much, especially when I thought about Titans East and Fastest Man Alive so I kept him in, then I saw you happened to pick him as well.

  5. X, you haven't seen Dark Knight yet?! Don't make me get on a plane and take you myself! lol I will make it a date and everything..^_^ relax JT, as friends! lol.

But, I am proud of you all who actually care about the artists!! :D You guys make me proud!

  6. Yep, I am embarrassed to admit that I've never seen the Dark Knight. I'm just not a big movie guy... But yeah, I swear that one day I WILL see that movie! Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next month, maybe not next year, but someday! :P

  7. Most number of author annotations \o/

Heh, well, I put Jason Todd in cause it's a fine line skirting between the two, and it was very well written at that point. Then it all went bad when he impersonated Nightwing and so on. I mean, that was just stupid…

For the top five TV/films, I was tempted to put Smallville in, but then I remembered the stupid continuous amnesia, wasted Doomsday potential etc etc. I know Lois and Clark had that whole wedding thing, but, well, I didn't mind it myself - I watched it out of order, so just enjoyed watching the episodes. Plus, I first watched it with that whole New Krypton taking over Smallville thing, and Superman getting disintegrated. Thrilling stuff

JT - you really enjoyed Super/Bat then? Was it for the story? Cause I actually thought it was a bit weak, and not as good as their previous long arc Search for Kryptonite. That and I didn't like the art.

I really need to read Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina…

Paul - you really enjoyed how Blackest Night sorta fizzled and just dragged on for a couple of issues, where nothing really happened? Really bugged me when reading it…

Alex Ross beating Jim Lee isn't actually that surprising - Jim Lee might do good art, but it is typical comic book big bobbed broken back babes and meaty muscular mountainous men, with the women looking tiny by comparison; while Alex Ross just has beautiful art, with varied figures and it all looking natural.

Dark Knight was a kindof given when you think about it - BTAS had strong episodes and weak episodes, and the animation does date it a little bit (though the design ethic of Gotham was brilliant, and still compares to anything anyone does nowadays), while Dark Knight is just constantly good, and does look better (not because it's live action, but because it is just newer). Can't believe you haven't seen it yet X!

  8. I've read a lot of Jim Lee and Alex Ross lately, and it's actually lessened my opinions of their work. It's apparent once you've read a few things by Ross that he has a very limited number of models he's drawing from. And I put Jim Lee in the same class as artists like Ethan Van Sciver: people who draw comics like it's still 1993.

Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina are both basically one big story, so I don't feel too bad about not being able to pick five or six specific issues for each. Oh and Kello, I can't believe you of all people left me hanging on the FF-themed team-ups!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh I get ya Nagash, and I definitely agree that Nightwing stuff was terrible. I just said that because usually, if not always when Judd writes Jason he's an anti-hero, whereas he's a straight up villain when it's Tony Daniels.

I can't say I remember Supes getting disinigrated on Smallville. When was that? And yeah I really enjoyed Super/Bat. Just the idea that Bats would take having powers to the extreme, even attacking and almost killing Selina and Dick. Meanwhile Supes still tries to be a hero and almost dies the same way Bruce's parents did. I thought it was pretty clever.

So no picks for other categories guys? So far I think I'll do top five One-Shots.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I've always said that Spider-Man 2 is a good "comic book movie", whereas The Dark Knight is a good movie in general. While I think I like DK a little less as time goes by, it's still the pinnacle of comic adaptations.

I was surprised to see Norm Breyfogle and Jock on the lists, they're two great but not universally recognized artists for sure. And I was a little shocked there weren't more Kuberts on the lists.

X- I'm assuming you're talking the David Hasselhoff Fury TV movie. Wow, I forgot that ever happened. What were they thinking?

JT- Grodd has been lying low. I never finished Blackest Night: Flash, but I know Barry visited Gorilla City in that mini. Thanks for doing this again, buddy. I suggest that we do "top 5 hottest characters" next time, that way Falisha can pick some dudes if she wants to. I'd make a joke about Marc picking some guys (based on his comments last week at HK) too but I've had my share of comic man crushes so I can't judge.

Marc- First of all, I loved your Stilt-Man pick.

As far as the Torch/ Spidey and Torch/ Thing teamups, I considered a number of FF related teamups. My constantly mutating list of favorite duos even had Franklin/Valeria at one point. But I decided that I would mostly try and pick characters who could go off on their own as well. FF is a book that pretty much requires those Sue/Reed, Thing/ Torch ,Franklin/ Val team-ups, so it's kind of a given that they're present in the stories.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Not a problem Kello, and I'll throw that in, but if Falisha yells at me for picking PG or Canary I'm blaming YOU! :P

I actually read Blackest Night Flash and Grodd was absent surprisingly, the main Gorilla there was um... some dude I'd never heard of named Solovar. Maybe you know of him?

Lol @ Marc's comments, I'd almost forgotten about those. Man that was fun.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Kello - It's true, I guess it doesn't really count as a team-up if you're already on the same team. But I guess I was going more for the rivalry/bromance of Human Torch and the Thing, rather than how they complement each other in battle. And do Franklin and Val team up a lot these days? I haven't read Fantastic Four since Waid/Wieringo.

As for more categories, how about Most Under-rated and Over-rated storylines? Heck if you did that, you probably wouldn't even need any other categories. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh, and Stilt-Man is awesome.

    So is Big Wheel.

    ReplyDelete
  14. When Tony Daniels or Grant Morrison write him, eh? ;)

In Lois & Clark he gets disintegrated...

Top 5 lamest superhero/villain names perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah. Then again, even when Grant wrote him he was just killing villains for the most part. So he was still an anti hero, just one with Red Hair for some stupid reason.

Ah, I misread. And I could see that one working, lamest hero/villain names.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Grant's at least had promise, I'll give him that. And the costume, minus the dome head, was pretty cool.
I didn't mind the red hair myself, but then I never read any Jason Todd except Death in the Family, Hush, and the Red Hood stuff...

You foo :P Course it would, cause there's some real gems out there

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah the costume, minus the helmet was nice. I hated the red hair because it made no sense. Sure, Pre-Crisis Jason had red hair but to say that Bruce made a Post-Crisis Jason dye his hair black is stupid. So the entire time Jason was dead, and in a coma, and with Talia, and after going in the Lazarus pit, which gave him a grey streak, that he's been steadily dying his hair black? That just annoys me. Seems like it was just his way of calling Jason the Red-headed middle child.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hence my drawing of it minus that silly helmet along time ago. I dunno, I'm obviously working from looking back, and it jus doesn't mean much ta me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Of course you'd say that, you're a red head. Lol but really, it makes no sense and thats why it annoys me. You're telling me he had hair dye that's been going strong, in his hair for over six years, even though he went in something that can restore age and scars, but his hair remained black? That's so stupid it doesn't even make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lmao, dang JT you make it seem like I'ma beat you up if you picked PG or Canary. Meeh I would! Lol.

And Kello, lol in all honesty I wouldn't even pick dudes for "top 5 hottest characters" all females. Lol. As a matter of fact, I already have them in my head. Lmao.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh god yes Kello, the Hasselhoff/Fury movie! I remember I was channel surfing one Saturday afternoon and I wound up catching that movie on some station. I think I sat there the entire time in a combined state of shock and horror, until it ended, at which time I laughed hysterically for about an hour, before sobbing uncontrollably... What were they thinking indeed!

Huh, so who knew Stilt-Man had such a fan following... I guess it could have been worse, somebody could have chosen Mad Hatter...
