Salvation Run Review

Hey everyone, Today's review will be on Salvation Run as the title of this post just gave away. I came down to the wire and decided to go with Salvation Run because I'd just watched the movie Cannonball Run and thought they'd be similar. No, I'm joking, I've never seen Cannonball run. Basically I had to choose between reading about Marvel vs. DC which sounds awesome or reading about The Flash's Rogues, Batman's Rogues featuring Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Joker and Lex Luthor and at the end of the day thats too much evil to be contained so I chose Salvation Run. So we're gonna jump right in to the seven issue mini series that is Salvation Run.

Our story starts with Amanda Waller and Rick Flag Jr. discussing a plan to do away with all of the villains. After noting Black Adam's World War III after the loss of Isis in Kandaq, The attack by the Amazonian women on the free world, and the murder of The Flash (Bart Allen) by The Flash's Rogues. Rick informs the Rogues that they along with others will be sent to another planet with no materials but their powers and weapons. They are allowed this planet, they can try to rule it, they can establish a government but they are no longer a problem for Earth or any of it's inhabitants. Fast forward two weeks to where The Rogues are on some seemingly deserted planet fighting for their lives only relying on each other to make it through day by day.

Without giving away any pivotal information lets just say some of the people who show up are a given like Joker, Lex, Metallo, and Cheetah, but some other people surprised the hell outta me. I mean really who expects to see Ibac, Man-bat, or Crazy Quilt? Or freaking Kid Karnevil who wants to grow up to live his life like The Joker and honor Mister J by skinning his body to make a suit or a cape? WHAT?! That Kid is insane and it works so well on this planet of crazy villains. Plus guys like Catman, Deadshot and Bane just make the story even more rich. And what Joker did to Psimon...one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a comic book. Gotta love The Joker.

All in all I loved this story. The villains were represented perfectly, no one was out of character and it made a very fun story. It's awesome watching these villains plan, backstab and murder one another just because it's in their nature. I will say the final two issues slowed the momentum down and I didn't care much for the Vandal Savage plot but everything else was top notch. I gotta give this mini series an 8.5 rating and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't checked it out yet. The artwork is also very nice looking and accentuates the characters perfectly.

Before I get out of here I wanna link a video that someone made to a song I had never heard before, It's called "The Ballad of Barry Allen" by Jim's Big Ego. The video has clips from Teen Titans and JLA/JLU that featured Wally West but I'm not picky. Anyway I think it's a great song and the video does it justice. Anyone interested in checking it out can watch it below.

  1. Once again another great comic review by Mr. JT.

Sounds like you really enjoyed reading this arc. It sounds really good and interesting. I mean you can't go wrong having some of THE best DC comic villains on their own planet....I know there was TOO much chaos going on.

I really have to get this from the Comic shop. You're a great pursuader sir. lol I'm really interested in how things went, also, what type of role Cheetah played. She's one of my fav female villain. Most of the time they give her such a lame characteristic in most Wonder Woman Comics, except for Land of the Dead, maybe they made her baller this time around too.

But I shall see. Can't wait to read. Great review :D. Can't wait to read the next one.

  2. I've got to second Falisha, great review. I TOTALLY agree with your thoughts on this one. I loved this mini! Besides the Vandal Savage stuff(why was that in there?)everything was top notch. You've got to love the Joker/Lex stuff towards the end.

Oh, and believe it or not, Kid Karnevil has been showing up in the current issues of the Justice Society book, and he's still a horror!

  3. Thanks to both of you for the kind words. Cheetah was kinda interesting Falisha, she didn't have a huge role but she got more lines than Two-Face did so that's one thing. And X I saw that when I looked him up, isn't he a hero now or something?

  4. Nah, he infiltrated the team as the cheery All-American Kid, and then went about literally stabbing the JSA members in the back! It was funny, because I didn't make the connection between Karnevil and All-American Kid until after he did his reveal.

  5. Really? Oh man what issues? I gotta read those.

  6. Let's see, he first shows up in issue #29 and he's still around in the most recent issue, #34. He's kind of like Inertia in that he doesn't fit the mold of the average villain, so when he's acting up, it's hard not to get a kick out of it.

  7. Man...this is awesome. That kid may become my new favorite murderous half pint since Inertia is on hiatus. I'll be picking those issues up Wednesday.

  8. Cool, hopefully you'll like them. I enjoyed that JSA storyline for the most part.

  9. I'm sure I will...I want that crazy little brat to get owned by Damian for some reason. Their both insane.

  10. No way, I'd pay good money to see Karnevil knock Damian down a peg or two!

  11. Yeah well after he got backhanded by Joker I doubt he could handle the ball of fury that is Damian The Annoying. I'd love for Kid Karnevil to be Damian's Joker.

  12. "Damian The Annoying"? I like it! I like it a lot! That really fits.

It would be kind of cool for Damian to get his own rogue's gallery though. The main reason I dislike Damian is because of how disrespectful he is to all of the other heroes he comes into contact with. Dick, Tim, Steph, Guardian, even Alfred has taken crap from Damian. I'd prob really enjoy it if he was treating villains with the same disrespect he's always giving heroic characters.

  13. I think that should be his new moniker.

I agree, I think if he had rogue's to project that on then he's be nicer to all the heroes. I want Alfred to just go off on him to be honest and he just switches gears and becomes a respectful kid.

  14. I think there should be an accident involing him repairing the Batmobile, it landing on him and killing him ;)

  15. I'd definitely go for that, Man when we're rallying for a kid to go the Jason Todd route he's GOTTA be annoying.

  16. No, we're not going the Jason Todd route. Jason Todd died for something (storywise), died from Batman's greatest foe and had a brutal death.
This kid just needs to die.
